The Bottom Line........
Our first baby was born. A Beautiful baby girl, weighing 7lbs 4oz. My motherly instincts came flooding in, I wanted to love, care and protect her, give her the best of everything, and make sure she had a great start in life.
I'd read about breastfeeding, and how important and wonderful it was. I'd read about sleeping positions and how to ensure she was safe. I'd learnt about baby massage and teething tips. I’d googled the lot.. I knew it all………or so I thought!
Cloth nappies were a vaguely familiar concept, but the thought terrified me - poo under my fingernails, the proverbial nappy bucket outside the back door with floaters for all to see....I thought of greying leaky folded squares with a big ugly safety pin just ready to ping open and cause damage…
Weeks of research revealed the truth behind, well, healthier behinds! I learnt that modern reusable cloth nappies contain none of the chemicals, adhesives and plastics that make the disposable option such an unpleasant one.
I also learnt that using cloth is actually as easy as One Poo Three…the bottom line was that you don’t need a degree in origami, they don't smell, babies aren't left with sore botties, there is no soaking or boiling required, and washing is not much different from a regular laundry load.
So off I set on my mission to learn what I needed to ‘Go Cloth’. To my surprise I was faced with a whole world I never knew existed. The variety of nappies was simply enormous, where women had these amazing ‘nappy stashes’ and actually made a hobby out of washable nappies!
Well, I wanted ‘In’- over the next few weeks I starting researching my options and gradually starting dipping my toes into cloth nappy shopping. I was soon hooked- picking new colours to match certain outfits, the excitement of receiving ‘fluffy mail’, building up a nappy stash, people stopping and asking if she was wearing ‘designer nappies’- those mad women were right all along, it really was fun!
Eventually I decided to use my passion to open up this store, and help other parents to make the switch from disposable to reusable. We are a family run business, and juggling full-time parenthood with a full-time business can be challenging to say the least, but worth every minute!
We love what we do, fill-your-pants.com is not just about using cloth nappies to relieve the landfill. Its about an ethos of care -caring enough to make a change (however small), caring for your babies skin, caring for the environment, and caring for your wallet!
